Imperial Tobacco Global Headquarters

The best working environment in the South West

Imagine the coolest office you could work in and you’d be close to what we built for Imperial Tobacco’s Group Headquarters in Bristol.

Recognised as Office Development of the Year at Insider Property Awards South West 2013, the new headquarters combines great spaces, with prefabricated integrated services, providing an ‘ultra-green’ and productive working environment.

How did we do it? We understood Imperial Tobacco’s vision for a new way of working, putting sustainability, and the health and wellbeing of their staff at the heart of the design.

The four-storey building is concrete framed, with a striking zinc-clad façade and extensive glazing and curtain walling. We built two blocks with plenty of modern open plan offices, creative break out spaces and meeting rooms themed around different countries where Imperial Tobacco operate, linked by a three-storey atrium.

But it doesn’t only have great working spaces. As Imperial Tobacco wanted to enhance the health and wellbeing of its staff, the building also includes a restaurant, a gym, prayer room and a humidor. And we installed charging points for electric cars and motorbikes to encourage staff to reduce their carbon footprint.

A sustainable future

We incorporated several sustainable features such as solar panels, a green roof and a greywater reuse system, to ensure the building has low operational costs but is still big on great design. We also installed high-efficiency LED lighting, with each bulb having a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours.

The BREEAM Excellent rated building also includes an energy centre with bio-mass boilers, four pipe fan coil units and a turbo-core chiller to efficiently heat and ventilate the building, maintaining pleasant working environments.

We are now building the group's UK headquarters on the same site.
