Under-construction Bradford College is set to light-up the City centre using a high-tech lighting display from 19 November. The spectacular sequenced light show will be visible for around three miles from new build the scheme and accompanied by an audio soundtrack and create a visual entertainment from 5pm each night until 20 December.
The patterns and colours will be generated from the base of two tower cranes and projected up vertically as far as 39 metres, and horizontally across the 55 metre gibs. A seasonal goodwill message will be projected onto the gable end of the existing Kent building. The initiative was dreamed up by BAM Construction who are re-developing the massive £35 million Great Horton Road campus for the College, together with West Yorkshire based Stage Management Company. The light show will be created through state of the art computerised lighting control software and intelligent lighting fixtures and units, and help to create a focal point on the City’s Skyline. Peter Hargreaves, Head of Production at Stage Management Company said: “We are delighted to have created a fun twist on what is currently a derelict area and bring some glamour to a building site in central Bradford, creating something for the whole city to enjoy at Christmas time. The creation of the new College is really exciting, and we are delighted to have given it a style make over.” For BAM, Senior Project Surveyor Dominic Makohin said: “For BAM, a construction project is much more than just a building, it is a chance to do a range of other things for an area too. That means trying to bring local benefits for the economy and for the community. And at this time of year, there’s room for something fun like this too, so we’re delighted that it’s happening.”
The new build Bradford College is due to complete in summer 2014.
